Reiteralm up next
The World Cup slalom races scheduled for Levi, Finland, this weekend have been moved to Austria because of a lack of snow. Last year, races in Levi were cancelled for the same reason.
Instead, the men’s and women’s slaloms will be held in Reiteralm.
The Austrian resort also served as a substitute locale for races canceled last year in Val d'Isere, France.
The move bodes well for the Austrian red and white as last year Austrian women swept a Reiteralm super combi, with Marlies Schild topping Michaela Kirchgasser and Kathrin Zettel on the Gasselhoehe course. The next day in super G, Renate Goetschl won ahead of Nicole Hosp, with Swiss skier Martina Schild third.
The U.S. Ski Team plans to start Resi Stiegler and Stowe’s Lauren Ross Saturday in the slalom. Sunday, Ted Ligety, Jimmy Cochran, Tim Kelley, both former Stowe racers, Cody Marshall, of Pittsfield, and Bode Miller in the men's slalom.
Following the stop in Reiteralm, the World Cup moves to Lake Louise, Canada, on Nov. 24 for a men's downhill. The women will race a giant slalom and slalom in Panorama, Canada, on Nov. 24-25.
