Vonn competes for ESPY
Lindsey Vonn , this year’s World Cup overall and downhill champion, has been nominated for an ESPY Award and voting is currently underway.
She’s up against LPGA Tour golfer Lorena Ochoa, former University of Tennessee and current WNBA basketball player Candace Parker and IRL race car driver Danica Patrick in the Best Female Athlete category.
Fans can vote at both www.espys.tv or via cell phone. Last year, more than 12.5 million votes were cast. Vonn is the only skier among athletes and teams in 37 different voting categories, while snowboarders Gretchen Bleiler, Kevin Pearce and Shaun White are also up for EPSYs.
The ESPY Awards show will air July 20 on ESPN.
Vonn's nomination comes because of her unprecedented season. She won five downhills to become the second American to win the World Cup downhill title. Vonn also won the coveted overall World Cup overall title, becoming the first woman to do so since Tamara McKinney in 1983.
